Description

Are you planning to apply to residency in Alberta? Did you know that you must first apply via the Alberta International Medical Graduate Program (AIMGP) first in order to qualify?

The application portal is now open and closes on May 27th. Applications to the AIMG Program must be completed and submitted through the AIMG Program online application portal before the application deadline. A new application must be submitted each AIMG Program cycle for which the applicant wishes to be considered.

The purpose of this session is to ensure you are aware of the documentation needed and the process. We will highlight any changes from last year and important deadlines. We do not want for our members to miss out on applying to residency in Alberta. This session is a MUST for anyone applying for residency in Alberta for the first time. Therefore, please join us for one or more of our online Question and Answer sessions regarding the upcoming AIMG Program cycle.

This session will be facilitated by Deidre Lake, AIMGA’s Executive Director.

This session is being offered multiple times up to the application deadline. If you are unable to attend this session, please join one of the other sessions this month.

Please register for this a few minutes early so that the session can begin on time at 12:00 pm.

To register:

Step 1: Confirm your seat below to register via the website

Step 2: The Zoom link will be included in your registration confirmation that is sent to you by email. Our program administrators also email the link to you.

If any questions, call 403-520-7730.

Step 3: When joining via the Zoom link, please ensure to indicate your first and last name in order to be let in to the session. If you cannot be identified, you will not be let in. Also, if joining late (15 minutes or more), you may not be let in as these sessions are only 1 hour in length

We look forward to your questions and assist you with your upcoming application.

Description

The Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam Part 1 Study Group is facilitated by a moderator to assist IMGs to prepare for this examination. The current moderator is Dr. Faiza Saeed. These sessions are being offered online due to COVID-19.

The MCCQE Part I is a summative examination that assesses the critical medical knowledge and clinical decision-making ability of a candidate at a level expected of a medical student who is completing his or her medical degree in Canada. The examination is based on the MCC Objectives, which are organized under the CanMEDS roles. Candidates graduating and completing the MCCQE Part I normally enter supervised practice. Aside from formal accreditation processes of the undergraduate and postgraduate education programs, the MCCQE Part I is the only national standard for medical schools across Canada and, therefore, is administered at the end of medical school.

The MCCQE Part I is a one-day, computer-based test. Candidates have four hours in the morning to complete 210 Multiple-Choice Questions and up to three and a half hours in the afternoon for the Clinical Decision-Making component, which consists of 38 cases with short-menu and short-answer write-in questions. For specialist IMGs, the QE1 requires a complete review of all areas of medicine.

AIMGA’s MCCQE1 study groups are offered throughout the year on a quarterly basis.  AMIGA provides computer software study materials and other relevant resources as a means of preparation (i.e. UWorld, QBank, MCC Preparation materials).

Please note it is required that you register here on the website before accessing the study session with the following Zoom link:
