Description

Our staff are available to meet with members for the following purposes:

In general (30-minute consultations; information and orientation):
– to discuss your background training and experience;
– to provide guidance on pathways to licensure;
– to answer questions you may have about pathways to licensure, AIMGA’s services and programs, and other supports; and
– to determine your next step with regards to your goals.

Licensure Pathway Support (1-hour consultations):
Our AIMGA staff members are here to help you with your application to AIMGP, CaRMs, PRA-AB, other PRA programs in other provinces. These sessions are typically one-hour in length to assist you by reviewing application submissions, resumes, and personal statements for grammatical correctness and clarity. AIMGA also offers a CaRMS Preparation Program which we highly recommend for those applying to CaRMS (Canadian Residency Matching System).

Employment Related Services (30-minute or 1-hour consultations):
Our AIMGA staff are here to help you achieve your employment goals. If you are looking for employment as a short-term or long-term goal, we are here to assist you. Support may include a discussion of your background, interests, and employment needs. Or, if you have a job you are interested in applying for, we can review your resume and/or cover letter for example. Or, if you’ve been called for an interview, book a mock interview session with us to help you prepare. We are also here to discuss other pathways in healthcare. If you are serious about exploring alternative career pathways in healthcare, we recommend you consider our Career Transition Program which will be offered in September and January.

Description

The Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam Part 1 Study Group is facilitated by a moderator to assist IMGs to prepare for this examination. The current moderator is Dr. Nuruddin Lakhani. These sessions are being offered online due to COVID-19.

The MCCQE Part I is a summative examination that assesses the critical medical knowledge and clinical decision-making ability of a candidate at a level expected of a medical student who is completing his or her medical degree in Canada. The examination is based on the MCC Objectives, which are organized under the CanMEDS roles. Candidates graduating and completing the MCCQE Part I normally enter supervised practice. Aside from formal accreditation processes of the undergraduate and postgraduate education programs, the MCCQE Part I is the only national standard for medical schools across Canada and, therefore, is administered at the end of medical school.

The MCCQE Part I is a one-day, computer-based test. Candidates have four hours in the morning to complete 210 Multiple-Choice Questions and up to three and a half hours in the afternoon for the Clinical Decision-Making component, which consists of 38 cases with short-menu and short-answer write-in questions. For specialist IMGs, the QE1 requires a complete review of all areas of medicine.
AIMGA’s MCCQE1 study groups are offered throughout the year on a quarterly basis. AIMGA provides computer software study materials and other relevant resources as a means of preparation (i.e. UWorld, QBank, MCC Preparation materials).

Description

AIMGA is pleased to offer an evening IELTS Preparation Course online on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting June 2nd to July 9th. This 30-hour course consists of 12 classes from 6:00 to 8:30PM on June 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30 and July 2, 7, and 9.The course will be taught by AIMGA’s Katherine Anderson, an experienced English language instructor and IELTS assessor. A focus on writing is emphasized as this is the area most IMGs have challenges with when it comes to meeting language requirements set by regulatory bodies.

Katherine has worked for several colleges and universities in Calgary. She taught the Communication Skills for Health Professionals program at Mount Royal University, and has taught a variety of IELTS preparation courses. She is passionate about working with advanced-level students, particularly IMGs. Katherine obtained bachelor degrees in both philosophy and religious studies, before earning a master’s degree in adult education and a TESL certificate.

This course is no longer one of our funded courses and is being offered on a fee for service basis. The cost is $180 plus GST for a total of $189

A minimum of ten participants is required for this course to take place.
