Kelly Allen-PitchkoParticipantThe Department of Surgery in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Orthopaedic Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Academic Operations Manager, and works closely with Orthopaedic Faculty at the South Health Campus (SHC) Hospital. Research projects in which the coordinator is involved with may include more than one member of the Orthopaedic Team at SHC.
This position has a general outline of expectations and deadlines with autonomy left to the incumbent on how these critical deadlines will be met.
The work week will be flexible according to patient recruitment and studies.
Position is located at the South Health Campus Hospital.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Coordinate Clinical and/or Basic Science Research projects under the direction of a primary Orthopaedic Surgeon at SHC, Section of Orthopaedic Surgery
Collaborate with principal investigators including providing data, editing draft manuscripts, and collation of research material
Will also manage correspondence with prospective journals
Generate Research proposals and Conjoint Ethics Board submissions that advance musculoskeletal oncology research
Participate in the screening and enrolling eligible patients into research trials
Obtain informed consent, recruiting patients, and ensuring appropriate and timely follow-up for research studies
Enroll patients encompasses: consenting and assessing patients for inclusion/exclusion criteria; assisting in scheduling follow-up appointments and communicating patient’s usual care needs as well as study requirements at each visit; communicating with enrolled patients via telephone to assess their health status
Maintain screening log and enrollment log
Confidential research data management
Collaborate with the Research Portfolio and other Divisions of the Section of Orthopaedic Surgery
Complete research grant applications including to local, regional, provincial, national, and international funding agencies as appropriate
Complete Research Ethics applications for Division endorsed projects
Assist with manuscript preparation for publication
Help produce annual reports of Orthopaedic Oncology including a summary of ongoing research activities
