    This position is responsible for supporting Company Operated and License store leaders in the Western Canada. The Retail Public Health Advisor Senior will work alongside of other food safety professionals while being a strategic partner to the regional operations leaders. Responsibilities include providing data that identifies areas of opportunity and consultation on the solutions to elevate performance. Storytelling through data analysis and influencing without authority are key to success in this position.

    As a Retail Public Health Advisor Senior, you are proficient in interpreting public health and food safety regulations, standards, and procedures. You have foundational knowledge and experience to interface with provincial regulatory authorities and associations to build relationships, clarify interpretation, and resolve issues. Uses multiple sources of information to make recommendations with guidance from manager. Advises cross functional and retail operation leaders to identify opportunities and drive improvement in public health and food safety. Proactively analyzes retail public health, food safety, and retail operational data to provide coaching and advise cross functional partners on projects and operations. Escalates issues to manager, devises and communicates improvement strategies. Understands and remains current on public health and food safety industry trends and practices. Adapts to learn new areas of the business.

    This role will require 50% travel across Western Canada and will require the successful candidate to be flexible and able to complete the travel to stores.

    As a retail public health advisor, you will:
    – Developing strategic and operational plans for the supporting region/work group and measuring results.
    – Provides functional expertise and collaborates with key stakeholders and support teams throughout the organization to achieve and optimize business performance.
    – Implements, monitors and continuously improves an integrated program which assures quality, product safety and regulatory compliance standards are met for food, beverage, merchandise and supply items manufactured, distributed and sold by Starbucks, as well as the systems and practices within the store environment.
    – Conducts and documents reviews of new or changing products, equipment, fixtures, store designs or operating procedures that impact our retail stores.
    – Understands and utilizes appropriate regulations and industry standards.
    – Analyzes quality metrics, audit data, customer feedback, regulator, and workgroup input. Highlights trends and potential opportunities and provides continuous improvement recommendations to department leadership.
    – Leads investigation and resolution of food safety, service provider and/or regulatory incidents from regulators, retail stores, or internal and external customers. Determines and recommends appropriate mitigation activities.
    – Delivers effective communications to provide partners at all levels with appropriate awareness and knowledge of quality assurance standards, requirements, program updates and process changes.
    – Maintains and builds expertise in product regulations, product safety best practices, local public health / foodservice regulations, and industry best practices.
    Qualifications:
    We’d love to hear from people with:
    – Developing, implementing, and monitoring food safety programs, standards and compliance (5 years)
    – Assessing safety and regulatory compliance of food handling practices, and the sanitary deign of food equipment and facilities (5 years)
    – Multi-unit Foodservice Operations (5 years)
    – Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS/RS) or Certified Professional – Food Safety (CP-FS) preferred
    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    – Current knowledge of FDA, USDA and CFIA guidelines and regulations
    – Bachelor’s degree in general science, Food Science, Food Safety, Culinary Arts, Environmental Public Health or equivalent, practical work experience
    – +5 years of experience in in a multi-unit food service environment, knowledge of retail or restaurant industry operations and food safety regulatory requirements
    – Ability to prepare concise verbal, written and visual presentations for leaders and cross functional stakeholders
    – Strong problem-solving skills with the agility to navigate complex business dynamics
