    Full Job Description:
    Position Overview:
    The Department of Oncology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

    The position will focus on studies examining cancer epidemiology and real-world data for cancer screening, detection, and risk reduction under the supervision of the Research Director of the Cancer Screening, Detection and Risk Reduction (CanDoR) program, Associate Professor and Armstrong Investigator in Molecular Cancer Epidemiology at the University of Calgary and the Medical Director of the Alberta Lung Cancer Screening Program.

    The Research Coordinator will be part of an established research support team that includes other data scientists, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and data management specialists. As part of ongoing professional development, the Research Coordinator will also have access to a support and educational network including working collaboratively with researchers and other statisticians, and monthly meetings with other research-based staff to discuss statistical and research ideas. They will have opportunities for further continuing education, such as attending software programming or methods workshops, weekly seminars and rounds, journal clubs and other professional development opportunities.

    Position Description:
    – Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
    – Preparing and managing research ethics applications
    – Prepare and generate research proposals and ethics board submissions
    – Developing and Preparing Research materials including questionnaires and surveys, sample collection protocols developing and managing standard operating procedures
    – Preparing written reports/summaries of data analysis with relevant figures, which are of high quality, accurate, and audience-appropriate as needed for oral presentations, technical reports, and manuscripts
    – Trains and mentors other staff members and encourages the development of junior staff
    – Assisting in the writing and preparation of grant applications
    – Assisting with research ethics applications and maintenance
    – Guides the execution of ongoing research projects according to a project plan
    – Helps to develop research project budgets for grant applications
    – Under general supervision and direction of the PI, assists in data analyses
    – Establishes and maintains effective and productive relationship with staff, peers and immediate supervisor
    – Accurate and timely analysis of results and reporting in accordance with project objectives and deliverables
    – Conducting basic statistical analyses using R
    – Assisting in the preparation of recruitment and data collection materials for research projects
    – Advise and instruct researchers, assistants and students regarding research methodologies and analytical processes
    – Interpret the results from the data analyses and write statistical sections of the study reports/publications including preparation of appropriate tables and figures
    – Performing literature reviews as required
    – Assisting in the design of research studies including data collection methods
    – Preparing presentations for conferences and dissemination
    Qualifications / Requirements:
    – Minimum of three years experience in a research setting.
    – Bachelors degree in a relevant field required
    – Preference will be given to those candidates with a Masters degree in Epidemiology, Community or Public Health, but not required
    – Experience with oncology research projects, specifically cancer screening, cancer data sciences, and cancer prevention and risk reduction required
    – Experience with research and program coordination across various team settings is essential
    – Experience writing literature reviews, assisting with grant preparation, and participating in the planning and execution of research projects is essential
    – Preference will be given to those candidates with experience organizing meetings and events, preparing ethics applications, and assisting with research operations such as invoicing, expense reports, budget management, and other administrative tasks
    – The ability to develop collateral material for events, special projects, and fundraisers (i.e., social media posts, photos, digital and physical posters, videos, etc.) would be beneficial
    – Experience with supervising student interns would be an asset
    – Experience with leadership roles in equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) workplace practices would be beneficial
    – Independent judgment, attention to detail, ability to learn new methods and strong problem-solving skills will be essential in performing the job duties
    – A high degree of accuracy, and the ability to re-prioritize tasks to meet deadline
    – Excellent oral and written communication skills
    – Excellent organization skills, including the ability to work independently, to multi-task, and to coordinate the work of others
    – Strong attention to detail
    – Proficiency in personal computing use of Microsoft Office Programs, and bibliographic software
    – Experience using electronic library databases
