    Full Job Description:
    Responsibilities:
The Physician/Clinical Assistant (PA/CL.A) is an academically prepared healthcare professional, educated in the medical model that practices medicine under the supervision of licensed physicians within a patient-centered healthcare team. The PA/CL.A is a physician extender and not an independent practitioner. This position is part of the PCAM union.

Under the supervision of the Hospitalists and other Physicians from the Bethesda Regional Health Centre, the PA/CL.A will be integrated with other members of the primary health care team within the hospital. The PA/CL.A Acute Care Hospitalist will primarily assist the Hospitalist and/or Family Physicians with inpatient care (primarily on weekends). The PA/CL.A will be responsible for comprehensive care to inpatients, which will include initial assessments (including histories and physicals), developing and implementing treatment plans and providing chronic disease management follow-up as appropriate. It is important that productive, cooperative working relationships be established between the Physician/Clinical Assistant and the attending physicians, other primary health care providers, nursing staff, support staff, itinerant consultants, health facility administrators, community leaders, and most importantly, the patients and their families.

The PA/CL.A will primarily be focused on the medical, acute care, rehab and surgical wards; however, assisting on other wards and assisting with lab result monitoring and out-patient care will also be incorporated into the daily routine.

The Region intends to establish a team of Physician/Clinical Assistants at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre to provide support as follows: The PA/CL.A Acute Care Hospitalist assists the Hospitalist and/or Family Physicians with rounds and inpatient or outpatient care on all wards as required. The PA Surgical (General Surgery) covers Surgical Assist responsibilities, as well as round on the surgical ward.

Involvement in ER or other areas is also contemplated as the roles evolve and will be based both on patient-care needs, as well as on the competencies and preferences of the candidates. It is the intention to have the Physician/Clinical Assistants truly function as a team and be interchangeable in these positions to assist with vacation relief or other workload-related needs.
