    Full Job Description:
    The Section of Neonatology (Newborn Critical Care), Alberta Health Services, invites applications for full time Clinical Assistant position.

    The successful candidate will provide patient care in Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at South Health campus, Peter Lougheed and Rocky View General hospitals under the supervision of a Neonatologist and in Level 3 NICU at Foothills and Alberta Children’s Hospital under the supervision of a Neonatologist.

    The 126 Level 2 and Level 3 beds in the 5 NICUs in Calgary provide comprehensive neonatal care in Southern Alberta. The Foothills Hospital is the designated high risk Perinatal Centre for Southern Alberta and SE British Columbia- is one of the largest perinatal centers in Canada with the highest admission rate.

    The Level III NICU at Alberta Children’s Hospital, one of the few centres in Canada with a Neonatal neurocritical care unit, caters to complex medical and surgical neonatalconditions.

    There are 25 full-time neonatologists with diverse specialized interests in education, clinical research, basic sciences research, neonatal follow-up, and a group of neonatologists trained in functional echocardiography and point-of care bedside ultrasound.

    Description :

    The Clinical Assistant working as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, under the supervision of a neonatologist / pediatrician will work 50 hours / week inclusive of on-calls and weekends to provide comprehensive and quality clinical care to preterm and term gestation neonates with medical, surgical, and chronic conditions.

    The responsibilities include sharing day-to-day clinical duties in the NICU with Tier 1 staff including Fellows, Nurse practitioners and Residents, attending deliveries, maintaining medical documentation.

    Other responsibilities include familiarizing with unit practices and guidelines to ensure consistency of care, excellent communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary team members and specialists, education of junior learners and participation in quality improvement initiatives and continuing medical education activities of the section.

    The Neonatal Follow-Up Program is nationally recognized and has strong national benchmarking and research collaboration. There are many educational rounds and seminars every week. The Continuing Medical Education program (CME) is one of the best in the country and invites world renowned experts. There are opportunities for professional development including participation in research, QI, educational initiatives, and committees and working groups. The University of Calgary considered a comprehensive academic and research university offers more than 250 undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs.
    It is one of the top 10 research universities in Canada with a student population of over 33,000. It is home to Cumming School of Medicine, Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning and Haskayne School of Business, in addition to other departments this field.

    Required Qualifications :
    Only International medical graduates – Canadian citizens or Permanent residents who have successfully completed residency training in Pediatrics or Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship in Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent accredited training programs are eligible to apply.
