The Medical Information Analyst (MIA) conducts research and analysis on volumes of medical information for risk identification and educational purposes. The MIA focuses on medical legal files where no patient safety event occurred. The MIA provides an assessment of the information, synthesizes the content, and prepares the information for the development of risk management materials, educational programming and publications, and for future use at the CMPA.

Through the selection of appropriate national, international and internal CMPA coding, the MIA synthesizes and accurately represents the case information. The coded information is captured into the corporate data repository for future analysis.

The incumbent provides medical legal file review and medical coding information support to Medical Analysts and Medical Analyst Researchers in SMC Research. The MIA regularly liaises with Medico-Legal Services staff and committees in matters related to data capture and data quality and process issues affecting file review and coding and acts as a resource to the Medical Information Specialist on coding initiatives, changes / upgrades in coding software and data acquisition activities.
