Upon graduation, Sara took the decision to focus on serving vulnerable and displaced populations including trafficked women who were forced to cross Sudan's treacherous border.

Following her graduation in 2013, Sara worked as a medical resident at Bashair Teaching Hospital, which served marginalized and low-income populations. She also worked as a national physician at the international organization for Migration (IOM), and successfully advanced the migration health agenda by incorporating migrant-inclusive health policies. Sara believes that morbidity and mortality among the migrant population is a critical health concern and deserves both domestic and international attention. As a result, she made a commitment to herself to work tirelessly to address the health needs of migrants and newcomers with special attention to the health of women and young girls. Her future plan is to ensure that discussions around irregular, forced, or exploitative migrant's health situations be incorporated into our health discussions here in Canada.

By being a member of AIMGA, Abdel-Nassir volunteers in the Health and Wellness team. As much as the Health and Wellness team helps new comers to settle seamlessly, they also convey better health practices and any sort of health awareness to the general public, specially during the outbreak of Covid-19.

By being an employee of the Canadian Red Cross, Abdel-Nassir was recently deployed to Vancouver Island on a mission to help out with the massive vaccination process in British Colombia. Abdel-Nassir's assignment to support the BC vaccination for support 2021 – Duncan as an Emergency Care Worker is to work along side with Canadian Red Cross field operators and collaborate with Vancouver Island Health authority also known as Island Health. As an Emergency Care Worker, Abdel-Nassir is an ambassador for the CRC, Vaccine providers, and the Island Health. He will be providing Mental Health/Psychosocial support as well as expertise on site planning and/or monitoring to prevent or reduce the risk of transmission to health-care providers, clients, patients, and/or residents through the application of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) guidance on site. Overall he is super excited to help the Island get vaccinated in a smooth and orderly fashion.

Abdel-Nassir was born in Somalia, then was raised in a refugee camp the first 14 years of his life. He came to Canada in 2008 with a passion to forge a career in the Medical Field. He works tirelessly to achieve greatness. He is the first member of his family to go to University. He has a strong passion of becoming a Cardiologist in the near future.

Her formal training in public health began with the West African College of Physicians Residency Training in Preventive Medicine and Public Health. Due to her exceptional leadership skills, Uche was appointed Chief Resident and Practice Manager to coordinate infectious disease control at the clinical and community level.

Uche obtained certification from US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) sponsored Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) during which she participated in outbreak response and surveillance evaluation. She was the lead for infection prevention and control (IPC) training at the Ebola Emergency Operation Center (EOC) where she developed protocols and coordinated IPC best practices in health facilities and schools.

Beyond the laudable efforts, her ability to articulate research findings and public health actions to an international scientific audience in 2016 not only demonstrated her advanced communication skill, but also earned her the coveted CDC award of 'Best Outbreak Response' in Africa.

Her critical-thinking ability was demonstrated when she conducted a quasi-experimental study to determine the cost-effectiveness of SMS and home visit reminders in reducing immunization dropout rates. She presented this research at the prestigious CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) conference in Atlanta, Georgia in 2018. Uche continues to hone her research skill and is currently a Clinical Research Scholar at Harvard Medical School.

Uche currently works for the Canadian Red Cross as the Provincial Public Health Lead where she coordinates a team of Public Health Advisors to implement COVID-19 control measures across Alberta. She also supports the COVID-19 contact tracing at Alberta Health Services. She is extremely grateful to AIMGA for shining the torch as she navigates uncertain waters in her career path. Rossana Urrutia-Bastardo is an International Medical Graduate from Venezuela where she worked as General Practitioner in urban and rural hospitals for a few years.

Following her passion for community and health care services improvement, Rossana began working on a community-based research study titled Primary Care Access for South American Immigrants and Refugees: Identifying and Prioritizing Barriers for Mitigation. She and her colleagues recently published an article in the BMJ Open journal, as well as, a commentary in the journal of Evidence-Based Nursing.

Rossana has completed numerous observerships in Family Medicine, and has worked as a clinical aide in a family practice clinic to gain insights into the Canadian health care system. Rossana has been an active member of AIMGA's COVID Response team and provided interpretation services at the COVID-19 testing in Brooks, AB and has been doing podcasts. She has recently joined Alberta Health Services as a case investigator specialist. Rossana aspires to obtain a residency position in Canada.

She is passionate about teaching, as well as sharing her knowledge and experience gained throughout many years of clinical practice and she has been able to do so by giving educational presentations on health topics for patients, family and community members, as well as Assistant Professor of Postgraduate studies of PM&R for the University Central of Venezuela (UCV). She is highly committed in providing compassionate quality care as well as supporting communities in need.

In 2016 she came to Canada where she has worked as Medical Assistant and Clinic Aide through which she gained experience in the Alberta Health Care system. She's currently an active member of the Alberta International Medical Graduate Association (AIMGA) and part of their COVID Response / Health and Wellness Team and joined Alberta Health Services as Contact Tracing Support Specialist in December. Michael obtained his Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery from Alexandria University, Egypt. He practiced as a General Practitioner and Emergency Physician after which he obtained a master degree in surgery before moving to Canada in October 2018. Michael comes with 12+ years of experience in managing patients in a clinic setting, hospital, and ER and worked under two licenses – one as a general practitioner and one as a surgical specialist. He's been involved in research conceptualization, screening, collation, interviewing, and analysis of data on research regarding patients who presented to hospital with Cubital tunnel syndrome; a condition of nerve entrapment at the elbow. Michael has published an article in neurosurgery at National Journal of Health Sciences, 2017, 2, 52-56 under the title Comparative Study of Outcome of Simple Decompression Versus Anterior Transposition of Ulnar Nerve in the Treatment of Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. Michael has completed a variety of workshops and certificates.

Michael also has an interest in health management and was a manager of the Om Elnour hospital for approximately a year. Michael is an active participant in AIMGA's health and wellness team and has been working as a Community Scholar and Community Advisor at the University of Calgary. He recently obtained a position with Alberta Health Services as a Contact Specialist.
