Description

AIMGA is pleased to offer an evening IELTS Preparation Course on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting November 12th. This 25-hour course consists of 10 classes from 6:00 to 8:30 PM on November 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28, and December 3, 5, 10, 12, and will be taught by Katherine Anderson, an experienced English language instructor and an IELTS assessor.

Katherine has worked for several colleges and universities in Calgary, recently delivering the Communication Skills for Health Professionals program at Mount Royal University, and currently teaching a variety of IELTS preparation courses.She is passionate about working with advanced-level students, particularly IMGs. Katherine obtained bachelor’s degrees in both philosophy and religious studies, before earning a master’s degree in adult education and a TESL certificate.

Description

The Career Transition Program (CTP) assists IMGs who are considering an alternative pathway into the Canadian health care system as a short or long-term career goal. The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Managing transitions
  • Making the most of change
  • Dealing with the loss of professional identity
  • Finding a job in Canada that makes use of your experience, education and expertise
  • Alternative careers
  • Networking
  • Informational interviews
  • Understanding and using social media effectively
  • Your elevator pitch and professional biography
  • Putting your resume and interviewing skills to the test
  • Giving and receiving feedback within the Canadian context
  • Successfully managing conflict in the workplace
  • The importance of soft skills, teamwork, initiative, and critical thinking
