Description

Basic Life Support Certification For Health Professionals (BLS) is a mandatory certification for all who work with Alberta Health Care System. It is based on the Heart and Stroke Foundation curriculum used for the training of health care providers. BLS is delivered by certified instructors and is opened each month to 6 IMGs. Participants receive a certificate only after passing the exam at the close of the training.

PLEASE READ NOTE BELOW:

This course has been made possible with funding from the Government of Canada (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada – IRCC). As a result, we can only accept those whom are considered IRCC eligible which includes: Permanent Residents, some Temporary Residents, and Refugees. If you are a Canadian Citizen, please email shola@aimga.ca regarding scheduling for  a BLS class for Canadian citizens. Please note that there will be a fee of $100.

Description

AIMGA is pleased to offer an evening IELTS Preparation Course on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting November 12th. This 25-hour course consists of 10 classes from 6:00 to 8:30 PM on November 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28, and December 3, 5, 10, 12, and will be taught by Katherine Anderson, an experienced English language instructor and an IELTS assessor.

Katherine has worked for several colleges and universities in Calgary, recently delivering the Communication Skills for Health Professionals program at Mount Royal University, and currently teaching a variety of IELTS preparation courses.She is passionate about working with advanced-level students, particularly IMGs. Katherine obtained bachelor’s degrees in both philosophy and religious studies, before earning a master’s degree in adult education and a TESL certificate.

The Career Transition Program (CTP) assists IMGs who are considering an alternative pathway into the Canadian health care system as a short or long-term career goal. The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Managing transitions
  • Making the most of change
  • Dealing with the loss of professional identity
  • Finding a job in Canada that makes use of your experience, education and expertise
  • Alternative careers
  • Networking
  • Informational interviews
  • Understanding and using social media effectively
  • Your elevator pitch and professional biography
  • Putting your resume and interviewing skills to the test
  • Giving and receiving feedback within the Canadian context
  • Successfully managing conflict in the workplace

Description

Join us for a workshop on Empowerment and Self Management of Diabetes with Dr. Fauzia Moyeen, one of AIMGA’s members on Saturday, November 16th from 10:45am to 12:45pm in Room 202.

Fauzia Moyeen, has provided training in more than 15 countries in the field of diabetes management and diabetes education. In recognition for her work, she was appointed as the Head of Academics in King Saud University in Saudi Arabia. Fauzia loves to educate and has presented at over 300 international, national conferences, workshops and focus groups. Fauzia has a passion for diabetes education and believes education is the corner stone in managing all chronic diseases. In her career as a trainer, she has practiced successfully the theory of empowerment, has vast experience providing training to multicultural audiences, delivered successfully Insulin Pumps and sensors training, and has a keen interest in Type 1 Diabetes in children and the psycho-social aspects of the disease. She is the current Membership Director at Diabetes Canada and continues to provide training through her company, DWC.
