Description

The CaRMS Preparation Program (CPP) (formerly known as Career Enhancement Training) assists IMGs to understand the organizational structure of the Canadian Healthcare System and the essential skills and knowledge required to function as a physician within that system. The training is highly recommended for those applying for residency through CaRMS (Practice Readiness Assessment or ACSAP) as it provides details on the specifics of the CaRMS application process including CanMEDs, CVs, Personal Statements and residency interviews.

The program is held on the following Mondays and Wednesdays:

Monday, October 21st
Wednesday, October 23rd
Monday, October 28th
Wednesday, October 30th
Monday, November 4th

Description

The Career Transition Program (CTP) assists IMGs who are considering an alternative pathway into the Canadian health care system as a short or long-term career goal. The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Managing transitions
  • Making the most of change
  • Dealing with the loss of professional identity
  • Finding a job in Canada that makes use of your experience, education and expertise
  • Alternative careers
  • Networking
  • Informational interviews
  • Understanding and using social media effectively
  • Your elevator pitch and professional biography
  • Putting your resume and interviewing skills to the test
  • Giving and receiving feedback within the Canadian context
  • Successfully managing conflict in the workplace
  • The importance of soft skills, teamwork, initiative, and critical thinking
