    Alberta Health Services is currently seeking the on-going services of an independently licensed physician to provide surgical assistance services in all surgical disciplines at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

    The recruit will be required to:

    Provide surgical assistance for elective surgery in all disciplines as needed. The elective work load is shared with two existing dedicated surgical assistants. Assisting opportunities during elective surgeries will be shared equitably among the three positions. The successful applicant may provide up to one third of assisting requirements, or less if negotiated with the existing assistants, with the final distribution of work to be determined by the SE Zone Surgery Department Co Head. The FTE of 1.0 is not to be understood to mean that the assistant will be working every day. When there are service reductions due to holidays or other conditions, available work will be shared equitably among the full time.
    Contribute to the on call roster for surgical assisting nights and weekends. On call duties shall be shared equitably among the assistants. On-call is expected to be 1:3.

    Obtain and maintain AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide services. Provide call support (1:3) as per AHS’s call schedules and expectations for the practices in the Zone or as may otherwise be established or directed by an appropriate Medical Leader including full-time participation in the on-call schedule for Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH).
    Reside in and have as primary residence, the community of Medicine Hat.
    Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies.
    Work collaboratively within the appropriate Clinical Department, MHRH.
    Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the appropreiate Zone Clinical Departmentat the MHRH, including (without limitation) achievement of certain performance indicators as determined by AHS, exercising its discretion reasonably.
    Proof of full immunization against COVID-19 as per AHS Policy #1189 IMMUNIZATION OF WORKERS FOR COVID-19.

    Must be Eligible for Surgical Assistant (SA) Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
