Description

Description:

During this session, our member, Maria Teresa Patria, will provide an overview of the AIMGP Clinical Assessment Placement (CAP) and answer any questions you have.

While this session will focus specifically on the AIMGP CAP, it may also be useful for those applying to the current AIMGP 2023 cycle and seeking to do observerships.

What is the AIMGP CAP?

The AIMG Program offers an opportunity to immerse and gain practical experience in a Canadian clinical setting through the Clinical Assessment Placement (CAP). CAP participants are selected at random from the pool of AIMG Program candidates who did not match during the 2021 Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS) cycle. CAP participants will engage in a structured and
supervised four-week clinical or hospital placement in Edmonton, Calgary, or from a selection of rural locations. Throughout their placements, CAP participants will participate in actual patient care encounters over a range of clinical settings, for which they are expected to demonstrate effective procedural skills, clinical knowledge, communication skills and professionalism. Their competencies and attributes in a host of domains will be supervised and assessed by trained practicing physicians, resulting in a CAP Final Report.

Maria Teresa Patria Biography

Maria Teresa Patria is an International Medical Graduate from the Philippines with four years of extensive experience in health services as a licensed General Practitioner. As a hospitalist, she was dedicated to acute care management and effectively collaborated with colleagues and coworkers. She was an excellent team leader in the emergency room and intensive care unit. She demonstrated success in data analysis, outbreak control, and coordinating healthcare screening programs in rural, underserved communities for the vulnerable population. Her research interest has motivated her to complete Applied Clinical Research Certificate at McMaster University, Ontario, and Leadership Training in Pragmatic Clinical Trial in SPOR-Alberta. Her six years of working as a healthcare aide in Saskatchewan and Alberta have strengthened her passion for patient care. This work environment has introduced the importance of patient-centred care and the value of health equity. Also, taking care of the Indigenous resident patients has helped her understand their needs, culture, beliefs, and healing practices. She loves dancing and plays tennis.

Maria is currently working as a Clinical Assistant at the General Internal Medicine Department at the University of Alberta.
