Description

The Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam Part 1 Study Group is facilitated by a moderator to assist IMGs to prepare for this examination. Currently, we have several moderators for the QE1 at AIMGA. These sessions are being offered online due to COVID-19.

The MCCQE Part I is a summative examination that assesses the critical medical knowledge and clinical decision-making ability of a candidate at a level expected of a medical student who is completing his or her medical degree in Canada. The examination is based on the MCC Objectives, which are organized under the CanMEDS roles. Candidates graduating and completing the MCCQE Part I normally enter supervised practice. Aside from formal accreditation processes of the undergraduate and postgraduate education programs, the MCCQE Part I is the only national standard for medical schools across Canada and, therefore, is administered at the end of medical school.

The MCCQE Part I is a one-day, computer-based test. Candidates have four hours in the morning to complete 210 Multiple-Choice Questions and up to three and a half hours in the afternoon for the Clinical Decision-Making component, which consists of 38 cases with short-menu and short-answer write-in questions. For specialist IMGs, the QE1 requires a complete review of all areas of medicine.

AIMGA’s MCCQE1 study groups are offered throughout the year on a quarterly basis. AIMGA provides computer software study materials and other relevant resources as a means of preparation (i.e. UWorld, QBank, MCC Preparation materials).

Please note it is required that you register here on the website before accessing the study session with the following Zoom link:

Description

This online mock NAC OSCE is open to members who have proof of exam registration for the upcoming NAC OSCE (Sep 17/18)

Course details:
Each candidate will do a total of four (4) cases and move from room to room. In each room, there will be a standardized patient, an examiner, and an AIMGA staff member/communication observer. Candidates will have 2 minutes to read the door sign and either 9 or 11 minutes to do the case depending on whether or not there are examiner questions. Following the two rounds of four candidates each for a total of 8, there will be a feedback session where examiners will share their overall comments and advice for the actual NAC OSCE. Examiners are experienced, licensed physicians who have had previous experience assessing candidates and/or teaching medical students.

Schedule in MST:
5:45-6:00pm Orientation
6:00-7:00pm Round 1
7:00-8:00pm Round 2
8:00-8:30pm Group Feedback Session

This course is made possible through funding from IRCC. Therefore, at this time we are accepting registrants who are IRCC eligible only (i.e. those with Permanent Resident or Refugee status).

Seats will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. Those who do not meet the criteria for participation will be removed in order to ensure we have the right person in the right seat at the right time.

Also, there will be one seat per person to ensure seats are given to all those who wish to participate. Therefore, please do not register for more than one session.

If seats are full and you would like to be placed on a waiting list, please email Kathleen Hall (kathleen@aimga.ca)

Thank you kindly, everyone. As always, it is a pleasure to work with each of you. At AIMGA, we believe your success is our success.
