Description

The Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam Part 1 Study Group is facilitated by a moderator to assist IMGs to prepare for this examination. The current moderator is Dr. Anoop Sharma. These sessions are being offered online due to COVID-19.

The MCCQE Part I is a summative examination that assesses the critical medical knowledge and clinical decision-making ability of a candidate at a level expected of a medical student who is completing his or her medical degree in Canada. The examination is based on the MCC Objectives, which are organized under the CanMEDS roles. Candidates graduating and completing the MCCQE Part I normally enter supervised practice. Aside from formal accreditation processes of the undergraduate and postgraduate education programs, the MCCQE Part I is the only national standard for medical schools across Canada and, therefore, is administered at the end of medical school.

The MCCQE Part I is a one-day, computer-based test. Candidates have four hours in the morning to complete 210 Multiple-Choice Questions and up to three and a half hours in the afternoon for the Clinical Decision-Making component, which consists of 38 cases with short-menu and short-answer write-in questions. For specialist IMGs, the QE1 requires a complete review of all areas of medicine.

AIMGA’s MCCQE1 study groups are offered throughout the year on a quarterly basis. AMIGA provides computer software study materials and other relevant resources as a means of preparation (i.e. UWorld, QBank, MCC Preparation materials).

Please note it is required that you register here on the website before accessing the study session with the following Zoom link:

Description

Our staff is available to meet with members for the following purposes:

In general (30-minute consultations; information and orientation):
– to discuss your background training and experience;
– to provide guidance on pathways to licensure;
– to answer questions you may have about pathways to licensure, AIMGA’s services and programs, and other supports; and
– to determine your next step with regard to your goals.

Licensure Pathway Support (1-hour consultations):
Our AIMGA staff members are here to help you with your application to AIMGP, CaRMs, PRA-AB, other PRA programs in other provinces. These sessions are typically one hour in length to assist you by reviewing application submissions, resumes, and personal statements for grammatical correctness and clarity. AIMGA also offers a CaRMS Preparation Program which we highly recommend for those applying to CaRMS (Canadian Residency Matching System).

Employment Related Services (30-minute or 1-hour consultations):
Our AIMGA staff are here to help you achieve your employment goals. If you are looking for employment as a short-term or long-term goal, we are here to assist you. Support may include a discussion of your background, interests, and employment needs. Or, if you have a job you are interested in applying for, we can review your resume and/or cover letter for example. Or, if you’ve been called for an interview, book a mock interview session with us to help you prepare. We are also here to discuss other pathways in healthcare. If you are serious about exploring alternative career pathways in healthcare, we recommend you consider our Career Transition Program which will be offered in September and January.

Description

AIMGA’s health and wellness team meetings are held on Fridays from 9:30 to 10:30 am. This group was formerly known as our COVID Response Team which had been formed to assist AHS with the Cargill Food Outbreak. Our members called employees to educate them in first languages and created video-mediated materials in 19+ languages to educate newcomers in Alberta about COVID19 and the vaccine. These video-mediated materials are available on our HealthHub page on our website and we encourage you to share these. Our members have also conducted webinars in first languages and in English to newcomers enrolled in ESL/LINC classes and in the community. We’ve now launched AIMGA’s HealthHub for Newcomers.

The health and wellness team meetings are informal discussions on updates around COVID, the vaccine, and other health-related topics. We’ve had various guest speakers and presentations on community and research initiatives. Every 3rd Friday of the month, one of our members presents the latest chapter in an epidemiology book we are reading.
