Description

The Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam Part 1 Study Group is facilitated by a moderator to assist IMGs to prepare for this examination. The current moderator is Dr. Nuruddin Lakhani. These sessions are being offered online due to COVID-19.

The MCCQE Part I is a summative examination that assesses the critical medical knowledge and clinical decision-making ability of a candidate at a level expected of a medical student who is completing his or her medical degree in Canada. The examination is based on the MCC Objectives, which are organized under the CanMEDS roles. Candidates graduating and completing the MCCQE Part I normally enter supervised practice. Aside from formal accreditation processes of the undergraduate and postgraduate education programs, the MCCQE Part I is the only national standard for medical schools across Canada and, therefore, is administered at the end of medical school.

The MCCQE Part I is a one-day, computer-based test. Candidates have four hours in the morning to complete 210 Multiple-Choice Questions and up to three and a half hours in the afternoon for the Clinical Decision-Making component, which consists of 38 cases with short-menu and short-answer write-in questions. For specialist IMGs, the QE1 requires a complete review of all areas of medicine.

AIMGA’s MCCQE1 study groups are offered throughout the year on a quarterly basis. AIMGA provides computer software study materials and other relevant resources as a means of preparation (i.e. UWorld, QBank, MCC Preparation materials).

Please note it is required that you register here on the website before accessing the study session with the following Zoom link:

Description

This session consists of a mock MMI. MMI interviewers will vary from session to session and may include AIMGA staff, residents, practicing physicians, and other allied healthcare professionals which is the same as in the actual MMI. For the purposes of this mock, you will do 5 stations. There will be two rounds. Five people in each round for a total of 10 candidates in total. Following the rounds, there will be a brief group feedback session.

Some encounters may be videotaped. If so, links to your individual videos will be provided. Videotaping is a large endeavour so we will do our best in this regard. In any case, individual evaluation forms will be sent to you for your preparation purposes.

This program is made possible via funding and therefore seats are only made available to those who have proof of AIMGP eligibility at this time. Anyone who has not sent their proof of eligibility to either Monica or Nasim will be removed in order to ensure seats go to the right person at the right time.

Note: We will offer future workshops for CASPer and/or the Situational Judgement Test (SJT) for CaRMS. We will also hold individual residency interview preparation sessions once invites for interviews have been sent out.
