NAC-OSCE Study Group – Tuesday Afternoons

Description

The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Study Group assists Internationally Trained Physicians in preparing for the National Assessment Collaboration (NAC). The competencies and the objectives for the NAC OSCE are reviewed and the expectations of a PGY1 resident are outlined for the different case scenarios presented. The sessions focus on taking an organized history, clinical knowledge and skills, physical exam skills, the think-aloud technique, approach to the patient, ethics, professionalism, communication, and decision-making abilities.

** Proof of registration will be required to register and can be sent to Monica (monica@aimga.ca).

This study group will be facilitated by Dr. Bruce Fisher.

The online sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 1 pm to 4 pm.

The program objectives are:

  • to understand the exam objectives, format, and assessment criteria;
  • to increase clinical knowledge, decision-making, and management across a broad range of cases through discussion on current evidence, practice, and feedback;
  • to review specific tasks such as case presentations, interpreting of results based on expected formats;
  • to enhance communication, cultural and language skills relative to patient-centered care and the Canadian context; and
  • to familiarize oneself with time frames allotted for demonstrating competencies

These sessions are facilitated by Dr. Samina Noor who has completed her residency in Family Medicine. The sessions will be offered online and therefore focus on various case stems. The focus will be on taking an organized history, the approach to the patient, ethics, professionalism, communication, and decision-making abilities as to how to proceed. Cases will be discussed based on the most recent evidence and guidelines.

** Proof of registration will be required to register and can be sent to Monica (monica@aimga.ca). Please note that although there will be several study groups available, registration is only required with one group. All NAC-OSCE study groups will cover the same topics for the exam. 

The online sessions will be on Saturdays: June 10th to August 18th.

Description

AIMGA is pleased to offer an online IELTS Writing Course for IMGs.  The course will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am starting Monday, June 21st until Wednesday, July 14th.

This course is aimed at understanding the requirements and skills needed at an IELTS 7. You will be coached and oriented on all task types for both tasks 1 and 2. You will be allotted an opportunity to complete a timed written task in each class on which you will be provided feedback. Samples and structures will be presented to increase understanding of what is needed to improve writing and to obtain level 7.0 as needed.

This course is offered on a fee-for-service basis and the cost is $100
