The role of Cardiac Surgical Assistant includes working both as a first and second assistant in the operating room. Primary duties include vein and radial artery harvesting, however you will be required to assist with many different types of surgery. A complete list of procedures can be provided upon request. The position is part-time, compromising two days per week. There is opportunity to pick up extra shifts. Call is mandatory and is approximately one night every eight days and one weekend every seven weeks. As call is taken from home, applicants must be able to get to the hospital within twenty minutes of being paged for an emergency. Training is provided but surgical experience is an asset. This position is funded through an Alternative Relationship Plan (ARP) and is only open to Family Physicians. This position is not sponsorship eligible.

In accordance with the Policy, all contractors and AHS employees, including medical and midwifery staff are required to be fully immunized against COVID-19 prior to their first day of practice.

The candidate must be eligible for unrestricted Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Must read, write and speak English.
