As you may be aware, the current wave of COVID-19 infection affecting Alberta is causing significant stress on the healthcare system. In particular, the health workforce that AHS employs is getting sick and that in turn is affecting AHS’ ability to maintain services.

At this time, AHS’ physician workforce is stable, however other roles within the workforce though are being greatly stretched. AHS’ goal is always to keep sites operating as normal, and to ensure that all patients receive safe care. As part of a workforce strategy to support our frontline staff and provide consistent care to Albertans through the pandemic, AHS is seeking interested international medical graduates who may be interested in participating in non-physician roles for COVID-19 related care.

Although these roles won’t fully utilize your international medical training, your health experience could contribute to AHS maintaining care levels in both acute care and long term/continuing care in unregulated healthcare roles. These temporary roles will be frontline with patients and the public and physically on site at various care facilities in different parts of the province. Despite the unregulated and temporary nature, these are important roles that positively affect patients and our healthcare teams. The most likely job titles will be healthcare aide or comfort care aides.

The specific type, number, location and duration of the positions will vary. Compensation rates will be commensurate with the roles.

If you are interested and would be available on short notice (including currently residing in Alberta), please click the. You will then be prompted to create a simple, basic profile with AHS that includes some of your availability and interest information. It will also outline some of the minimum hiring requirements for all new AHS hires (ability to work in Canada, clear criminal record/vulnerable sector search, fully immunized for COVID-19, etc).

AHS Pandemic Response Redeployment Opportunities AHS will follow up with individuals who complete the online form with more specific details about the opportunities and processes for selection by individual sites/programs. Thank you for considering whether you are interested in these opportunities.
